Why do we offer this product if the refills are plastic?
Because our experience is that students have been less likely to throw this pen away (compared to pens that have a plastic body) - so we made a bit of progress in terms of the PEN portion not being disposable.
For now we offer black refills that are metal, and we'll keep working with the manufacturer to make metal refills in blue and red ink as well.
Our hope and plan is that schools provide free refills to students that can hang on to their pens. Trade an empty one for a full one.
Helps to have a small pencil tin so you don't lose your pen in the bottom of a backpack.
